Vontu Network Monitor from Symantec inspects internal and outbound network communications for confidential data, accurately identifies data security policy violations, and enables organizations to qualify and quantify the risk of data loss. Vontu Network Monitor covers multiple protocols, including email, web, IM, and FTP, giving organizations full visibility into what confidential data is leaving the organization, and who is sending it.

Vontu Network Monitor in action
For example, when an employee sends out customer data or intellectual property that violates data security policy, Vontu Network Monitor detects the incident and can automatically notify the sender and/or the sender's manager of the policy violation. This automatic and timely notification changes end user behavior and has proven to reduce the amount of data loss incidents by 90% in as few as 10 days in production deployments. In another example, Vontu Network Monitor can be used to monitor outbound network transmissions to identify broken business processes exposing confidential data, such as an FTP server on a weekly basis automatically sending unencrypted customer information to a trusted third-party.
