Vontu Announces First Integrated, Enterprise-Class Data Loss Prevention Solution for Data at Rest, Data in Motion and Data at the Endpoint
Vontu 7 Provides Content-Aware Endpoint Monitoring, New Capabilities for Data at Rest, Detection of Asian Language Content and More
SAN FRANCISCO — January 29, 2007 — Vontu, Inc. today announced the industry's first integrated, enterprise-class Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution to enable universal policy enforcement for data at rest, in motion and at the endpoint. The company's major new product release, Vontu 7, delivers a broad array of capabilities, including content-aware monitoring of USB drives and other removable storage devices, new data-at-rest discovery features, Asian language detection, and enhanced workflow and reporting capabilities for the global enterprise. By securing the data itself, regardless of network boundaries, Vontu 7 provides security for the world of high-speed bandwidth, mobile devices and virtual organizations.
"The world has changed and it is time to rethink security," said Vontu CEO Joseph Ansanelli. "We now do business in a wide open world with a virtually unlimited ability to share, store and use information. Vontu 7 allows organizations to manage policies universally for all major data types and risk points, extend coverage globally across national boundaries, and enforce the protection of data no matter where or when."
Breaches of personal data have reached pandemic proportions -- more than 100 million Americans have been exposed to potential identity theft according to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse. What's more, intellectual property loss poses a real threat to every business. More than 50 percent of companies reported data loss incidents in the last 12 months, according to the 2006 Global Security Survey by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Not surprisingly, data loss prevention is now the top category of promising new security technology, cited by 40 percent of respondents in the December 20, 2006, CISO Survey Results by Merrill Lynch.
Due to highly publicized data breaches involving mobile devices, data loss prevention has also become a top priority for endpoint security teams. According to a survey of data security decision-makers conducted by Forrester Consulting and released by Vontu today, more than half of respondents (52%) have lost confidential data through removable media such as USB drives in the past two years. Data loss via USB drives and other removable media is the top concern (72%) for endpoint security, followed by Trojans, spyware and other threats.
Integrated Data Loss Prevention Suite
The Vontu 7 suite enables organizations to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential data, whether it is located on servers, desktops and laptops (data at rest), exiting the network via email, web mail or other Internet protocols (data in motion) or copied to USB drives and other removable storage devices (data at the endpoint). The Vontu 7 suite comprises the following product components:
- Data at Rest
- Vontu Discover scans file servers, desktops, laptops and other data repositories, including Lotus Notes and SQL databases, for confidential data that violates policy.
- Vontu Protect secures confidential data at rest with the ability to automatically quarantine sensitive files.
- Data in Motion
- Vontu Network Monitor inspects all network communications for confidential data that violates data security policy.
- Vontu Network Prevent proactively stops policy violations via email, web, secure web and FTP, and can also conditionally tag and route data to an encryption gateway for secure delivery.
- Data at the Endpoint
- Vontu Endpoint Monitor delivers visibility and control over confidential data on USB drives, CD-ROMs, iPods, and other removable media, as well as downloads to local drives.
- Policy Enforcement
- Vontu Enforce provides central policy enforcement for accurate detection, policy management, access and privacy control, workflow and reporting across data at rest, in use, and at the endpoint.
- Technology Architecture
- Vontu Data Loss Prevention Platform is the unified technology foundation across the Vontu 7 data-at-rest, in-motion, and endpoint components, delivering enterprise-class system management, scale, security and integration.
Vontu 7 represents the most significant R&D investment in the company's history, with four times the scope of any previous release. It was developed in response to feedback and requirements from Vontu customers, including some of the largest, most data-driven companies in the world. To extend Vontu's product leadership position, Vontu 7 introduces many innovative new capabilities. Here are five of them:
Data Loss Prevention at the Endpoint
Vontu 7 is the first vendor to offer an enterprise-class endpoint DLP product that is fully integrated with DLP capabilities for data in motion and data at rest. Using the same accurate detection and policy enforcement as the Vontu network-based products, a new, agent-based product, Vontu Endpoint Monitor, delivers visibility and control over confidential data copied to removable media like USB storage drives, CD-ROMs and iPods, or downloaded to local drives in violation of security policies. The Vontu 7 multi-tier architecture scales to support tens of thousands of endpoints, while ensuring superior stability and manageability.
New Capabilities for Data at Rest
New features in Vontu 7 expand the coverage of data at rest by allowing organizations to discover exposed confidential data stored in content management systems and databases, including Lotus Notes and SQL databases such as Oracle. With Vontu 7, Vontu enables discovery of more data storage types than any other solution. New rapid remediation features enable incident responders to gain visibility into metadata on exposed data at rest, such as file owner, Access Control List (ACL) privileges and date last modified. These details are critical for incident response teams to quickly triage and remediate data at rest incidents.
Asian Language Content Detection
Vontu 7 is the first DLP solution to provide comprehensive support for detection, remediation, reporting and policy authoring across Asian languages, including Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese, and Korean across data in motion, at rest and at the endpoint. All Vontu detection technologies are enabled for double-byte character sets. Vontu now supports 32 different languages spanning Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Enforcement for Data in Motion
In today's market, the ability to proactively prevent email, web and other Internet transmissions that violate data security policies has become a core requirement. Vontu 7 offers open integration with Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs) from leading enterprise-class secure messaging vendors to enable organizations to automatically detect and prevent data breaches via email in real-time. The Vontu SMTP Reflector API integrates with enterprise-grade MTAs including Symantec Mail Security 8300, the IronPort C-series, Sendmail, CipherTrust IronMail, the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway, Postfix and others.
Incident Correlation
Vontu 7 enables first responders reviewing incident data to look for incidents with similar characteristics. For example, they can see all incidents from the same employee, or all incidents where the sender and recipient are the same. Incident Correlation can help identify patterns that denote either broken business processes or malicious intent.
Availability and Pricing
Vontu 7 will be generally available on March 30, 2007. Pricing starts at $25,000, and is based on the number of users and the products purchased.
