Harvard Pilgrim Health Care improves patient data security with Vontu
New England's healthcare leader reduces risk, supports regulatory compliance with data loss prevention technology
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — November 27, 2006 — Vontu, Inc., the leader in Data Loss Prevention solutions, today announced that Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a full-service health benefits company serving members throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, has selected Vontu 6.0 to reduce risk and enable improved regulatory compliance. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care plans to use Vontu to discover and protect confidential data on its corporate network, monitor and prevent confidential data from leaving the network, and automatically enforce data loss prevention policies.
"Because we value the security of our customer's records just as much as we do their health, we chose a holistic approach to security," said Ken Patterson, Chief Information Security Officer,
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. "This meant taking a look at our entire security infrastructure and evaluating where improvements could be made. We quickly realized that Vontu gave us the ability to ensure that confidential data - such as ePHI and NPPI - regarding our customers and employees was not left unprotected."
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care selected the Vontu Data Loss Prevention solution, including Vontu Discover, Vontu Monitor and Vontu Prevent, to better secure its protected health information in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Through the use of Vontu Discover, the organization aims to discover and protect exposed confidential data on laptops, desktops and servers - providing the security team with critical insight into security policy violations for data at rest. Using Vontu Monitor and Vontu Prevent, Harvard Pilgrim can provide complete protection for confidential data in motion, including the ability to automatically prevent a data breach before it happens.
Because sensitive data is often shared with trusted business partners, its handling and transmission must be performed in accordance with HIPAA as well as internal security policies. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will leverage Vontu Prevent's integration with PGP Universal to conditionally encrypt email based on content.
"Vontu solves many of the healthcare industry's pain points by safeguarding patient privacy and supporting HIPAA compliance," said Steve Roop, vice president of marketing and products at Vontu. "Harvard Pilgrim Health Care joins a growing list of healthcare organizations that are deploying Vontu solutions in order to reduce the risk of data loss."
